Drawing and painting ‘en plein air’ create the initial response.

Sometimes the painting is finished in one sitting usually using soft pastels and charcoal on Pastelmat paper or watercolour papers. At other times the initial studies and photographs provide inspiration for larger work . This usually involves working in pastels and charcoal on mountboard prepared with inks, acrylic and gesso. My intention is to try to create atmospheric works conveying a connection to places that I have visited.

Interests

I have always loved drawing and painting and making things. Initially I trained as a nurse and worked in Birmingham before having a family and a change of direction when I went part time to Worcester University and did a BA in Fine Art followed by PGCE. I then worked at Worcester Sixth form college teaching ALevels in Fine Art from 2000 until 2018. During the last few years I have focussed more on my art and working ‘en plein air ‘ in particular. I am lucky to live in a lovely part of Worcestershire where I am surrounded by beautiful countryside which I find inspirational. I am fascinated by the gradual changes in nature and quality of light and changing colours when working outside. It is easy to lose all sense of time and get totally absorbed in a place. I hope that some of this excitement and love of nature is captured in my work.
